On Sunday, November 11, 2012, I took advantage of the opportunity to photograph the Tennessee Valley Railway Museum's excursion from Chattanooga to Harriman, TN and return (having worked all night, I wasn't able to free up in time to ride). The chase had provided several photographic challenges in terms of light, as the northbound leg was tail-lit; and the sun decided to hide behind some cirrus clouds on the return trip south. Besides the use of Southern 2-8-0 630, another reason to photograph this excursion was to document the last days of the searchlight signals on this line, as the PTC "Darth Vadar" signals were already accumulating trackside, waiting to take the place of the older sentries. Seeing a historical locomotive intermix with today's modern railroading provided many interesting photographic opportunities as well.

As with most of these excursions, I had the pleasure to cross paths with numerous friends lineside. It was a very awesome day - one I won't forget anytime soon.
